For over 40 years, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development has monitored snow and ice in the Hindu Kush Himalaya, prototyped and scaled nature- and climate-positive solutions to development challenges, and protected nature and peoples in this astonishingly biodiverse and extraordinarily populous mountain region.
At this moment of unprecedented threats, both to the region and the future of our planet, the centre in 2023 launched SaveOurSnow, a global advocacy campaign that sets out to yoke together the voices of mountain communities, especially youth and Indigenous Peoples, mountain champions, especially professional athletes, guides, and other ambassador from the world of culture, and mountain scientists—in an effort to build the public will for governments and businesses to act before it’s too late.
